What Makes A Man And What The Lord Expects Of Us - 893 Words

So where do we begin to learn what makes a man and what the Lord expects of us? We begin our lesson with the story of creation. It is here that we get a glimpse into the creative realms of our Heavenly Father. With delightful purpose and majestic power, Our Lord spoke things into existence. Among these things was man (Adam). â€Å"Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’† Genesis 1:26 ESV It is interesting to notice not only does God give us a glimpse of His nature, but He also gives man a purpose within this creation. Dominion over all living things, now that’s a big responsibility. Firstly, let’s look at what God means by making â€Å"man in our image.† Does that mean we look like God? Did Adam act like God? It is commonly understood that the image God spoken of here is more about His character and how we are created like God, but not as gods. The ways we are like God are in our intellect, moral, and social aspects. This is an important first step in understanding our masculinity. It is from here all other building block are set. It is important to note that while we may be like God, we are but a small piece of His majesty. Likeness in this way is not to mean a perfect copy, but a distant one.
